About Happysucculents

I have been growing succulents for more than 20 years yet and as far as I remember, I’ve always been fascinated by Gasteria.

I love the diversity you can find inside this genus. They can either be very big, growing to more than 1m in diameter or very small, being only a few centimeters wide. They can be erected or stay flat on the ground. They can stay distichous or grow in semi-rosette or even in a full rosette, sometimes in a perfect spiral. The surface of their leaves can be very smooth, full of tubercules or even deeply grooved. Leaves can be short and thin to long and thick, or the contrary. Their color ranges from very bright green through emerald green to dark green, from light grey to deep blue or even full white, … The color can be uniform or show some interesting patterns in mixing colors in lines or spots. Variegation usually add some very nice shades of bright yellow, intense orange to full red. Growing conditions can change the appearence of the plant as well.

Interesting thing is that Gasteria are very easy to grow, though not being very fast. It usually takes 3 to 5 years to really see the potentiel of a new seedling and 5 more years to grow it to its full mature size. The good thing is that you always discover new features, they really are living sculptures! Just put them in very nice pots, as bonsai pots for exemple, and they will look like centenary jewels!

I’m happy you’ve come here. This website is under construction and will be enhanced in the coming months. I hope you will enjoy looking at those gems as much as I have pleasure growing and hybridizing them.
